Building Construction Technology A.A.S.

The Building Construction Technology curriculum is designed to provide students with an overview of the building construction industry. Construction labs/lecture courses and other related classes provide students with up-to-date knowledge on materials, trends, and techniques of the ever-changing construction industry.

Coursework includes basic construction concepts such as general construction, blueprint reading, construction estimating, and project management. Students may also diversify their knowledge of construction in other areas such as electrical wiring, construction surveying, plumbing, statics/strength of materials, and HVAC.

Graduates should qualify for entry-level jobs in any general construction setting and be able to advance quickly to management positions such as supervisors, superintendents, project coordinators, project planners, estimators, and inspectors. Students should consult their advisor for information about course scheduling.

Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be able to:

  • Perform basic measurements using a various array of measuring instruments in the S.A.E. format of feet, feet and inches, inches and fractions of an inch
  • Create, manage, organize, and communicate information through print and electronic media (GE III. 5)
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize and apply appropriate general construction skills
  • Ability to develop an ethical and professional foundation to become a responsible member of society and the construction industry (GE VI. 1)
  • Demonstrate an appropriate mastery of the knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of construction.
  • Demonstrate an ability to function effectively on teams (GE V. 3)
  • Develop a historical consciousness and global perspective of the need for preserving the environment by applying sustainable technology into building practices (GE IV.2)
