The Simulation and Game Development curriculum provides a broad background in simulation and game development with practical applications in creative arts, visual arts, audio/video technology, creative writing, modeling, design, programming and management.

Students will receive hands-on training in design, 3D modeling, and programming for the purpose of creating simulations and games.

Graduates should qualify for employment as designers, artists, animators, programmers, testers, quality assurance analysts, engineers and administrators in the entertainment industry, health care, education, corporate training, and government organizations. Students should consult their advisor for information about course scheduling.

Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be able to:

  • Utilize computer programming languages such as C/C++, C# VB, Java, etc.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of software packages commonly used in game development such as Maya, Unity3d game engine, Adobe graphics software, etc.
  • Exhibit story design and development skills
  • Use all Microsoft Office programs (for budgets, communications, scheduling, planning, etc.)
  • Demonstrate soft skills such as verbal skills, teamwork, and good work ethics
  • Exercise entrepreneurial skills in portfolio management and/or business management

Admission Policy

  1. Must have a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma.
  2. Complete College admissions and testing procedures.
  3. Interview and advisement with Coordinator of Digital Effects and Animation Technology Program.
  4. NC DAP Developmental Reading and English Composite Score of 136-150 or successful completion of DRE 097.
  5. NC DAP score of 7 or above in DMA 010, DMA 020DMA 030, DMA 040, and DMA 050 or successful completion of DMA 010, DMA 020DMA 030, DMA 040, and DMA 050 or a combination of the two.

Additional classes may be admitted to the program as deemed appropriate by the College. Due to limited laboratory space and course prerequisites, only students admitted to the Simulation and Game Development Program may enroll for courses with the SGD prefix. Should the number of qualified applicants exceed the number of available spaces, students will be admitted based upon the program application date.
