Civic Engagement is defined as "individual and collective actions designed to identify and address issues of public concern. Civic engagement can take many forms, from individual volunteerism to organizational involvement to electoral participation. It can include efforts to directly address an issue, work with others in a community to solve a problem or interact with the institutions of representative democracy" (American Psychological Association). Civic Engagement at Western Piedmont Community College takes place in a variety of ways. Faculty, staff and students provide hundreds of hours of service to the community through a variety of volunteer opportunities. Student clubs and organizations provide service in activities ranging from voter registration drives to volunteering in local schools.
