This course covers African American history through the Civil War period. Topics include African origins, the nature of slavery, African-American participation in the American Revolution, abolitionism, and the emergence of a distinct African-American culture. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze significant political, socioeconomic, and cultural developments in early African-American history. This course has been approved for transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement and Independent Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.
