Anti-Hazing Procedure and Reporting
The Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA) amends the Clery Act to prioritize the prevention of and transparency about hazing incidents at colleges and universities.
As part of Western Piedmont Community College’s commitment to fostering a safe and welcoming learning environment for all members of the college community, all forms of hazing, whether intentional or unintentional, are expressly prohibited.
Definitions
Hazing is defined as any intentional, knowing, or reckless act, occurring on or off campus, by one person alone or acting with others, directed against a student, that endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student for the purpose of pledging, being initiated into, affiliating with, holding office in, or maintaining membership in any organization whose members are, or include, students at an institution of higher education. This includes but is not limited to:
1. Physical brutality or abuse
2. Forced or coerced consumption of any food, liquid, drug, or other substance
3. Forced or coerced physical activity
4. Sleep deprivation
5. Exclusion from social contact
6. Conduct that could result in extreme embarrassment or humiliation
7. Any activity that would unreasonably interfere with academic pursuits
Procedure and Reporting
Any person who witnesses, experiences, or has knowledge of hazing activity should report the incident using the Confidential Hazing Report Form below.
Campus Hazing Transparency Report
Institutions must develop a Campus Hazing Transparency Report summarizing findings concerning any established or recognized student organization found to be in violation of an institution’s standards of conduct relating to hazing as defined by the institution. The College will publish on its public website, and update at least two times each year, this report based on the regulations outlined in the Stop Campus Hazing Act.
